Hawai’i has a magical way of leaving its’ mark on all who get to experience it. Whether you were born and raised here, came here for college, for a job, or to retire, living in Hawai’i is something that moulds your way of being in the world, into something a little bit different. Locals Only is a show of 13 photographers who are either from the islands or call Hawai’i their home. This crew of artists live and work in New York, Japan, Maui, Hawai’i Island, on the North Shore of Oahu, and in Honolulu. They work as photographers, videographers, producers, stylists and designers. Besides their passion for photography as an art form, they share the common thread of aloha and their deep connection to the special place that is Hawai’i.

Each photograph is a limited edition original print in a series of ten. All printing is done here at Paul Strouse Photographer and Studio with pigment archival inks on museum quality archival acid free matte paper. Each print, with proper handling and care, will last a lifetime and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity that is signed and numbered by the Photogrpaher.

For years I wandered around the city with a beat up Leica M3 (late 1950's/ early 60's) that I had bought off craigslist as one of my biggest purchases to date at the time. I was obsessed with Robert Frank and his seminal book The Americans. I took this photo in Atlantic City and it felt like the same feeling Frank chased in his book. As Jack Kerouac put it , "As american as a picture- the faces don't criticize or editorialize or say anything but 'This is the way we are in real life and if you don't like it I don't know anything about it 'cause I'm living my own life my way.'" I felt like that was a truism for how we all lived during that time.
